Welcome to the Metabolomics South Africa (MSA) Home Page. Metabolomics South Africa is an independent, non-profit organization, governed by a Board of Directors (BoD). MSA was established in 2018, and as of July 2018, MSA is an International Affiliate of the International Metabolomics Society, with shared goals and mission in advancing the field of metabolomics. Metabolomics refers to the comprehensive characterization and description of the total small-molecules complement of a biological system, all of metabolism. As such, metabolomics has become a central pillar in systems biology approaches, providing insights into the dynamic responses of living systems to genetic and environmental alterations. Metabolomics is multidisciplinary, involving chemistry, biology, statistics, chemometrics and computer science. The metabolomics community in South Africa comprises growing world-class research groups and facilities that are diverse in their research focus. Metabolomics South Africa now has more than 300 members in South Africa and other African countries.
